I wanted to make absolutely sure that the pier was pored with the correct orientation. Thus I spent a lot of time with lasers positioning the survey markers on which I would base the digging and eventually the location of the pier center. In addition I used the lasers to build a sight line to polaris so I could align the pier properly.
